Cumby Ride!

We sessioned a Cumberland trail combo - No Skids/Tied Knot/Bones with Boomer and his buddy Fin as our riding models. Erik Holbek happened to ride through while we there too! Tough to find some room to shoot with a dozen lenses and off camera flash for as far as the eye could see, but i did manage to pull off a few shots ;-) Good times - Thanks for setting this up Boomer!

HDRrrrr ...

I'm new to HDR (High Dynamic Range) but wow, is it cool! Here are a few shots I took on the weekend then cooked up using a program called Photomatix. Basically you combine three shots; the first taken at a balanced or correct exposure, the second and third taken one at 2 stops under and the other 2 stops over. C'est magnifique!

Mount Washington Summer Guide 2011

I just received a copy of the new 2011 Summer Guide for Mount Washington and there's one of my shots - Right on! 5000 copies floating around! Added bonus ... my shot is right next to a shot taken by Harookz! (Thanks Jnet!)      No Big Deal ;-)

Lifestyle. Choice!

Who knew that combining cameras and mountain biking would be so much fun? I DID! I've been having a lot of fun lately shooting for Lifestyle Photography assignments. Experimenting with off camera flash is definitely all about the vision, the set up, trial and error and what suits your style. The drama you're able to create in each frame is exciting - Looking forward to more!

Yaking!

Local whitewater kayaker Dave Prothero braved the elements, the cold water and twelve lenses a couple weeks ago (yup, the glacier fed Puntledge River in March!) for a little shooting session. He was a trooper, i nearly went for a swim, it was a GREAT day - Thanks Dave!!

Fashion Photography? Yes please!

So, it's funny how timing works isn't it? Mount Washington's biggest event of the winter season AND an overnighter trip to Van-Groovy for a Fashion Photography workshop fall on the same day ... HA! After some careful back and forth, pros and cons, hums and hahs - Vancouver here i come! A solid workshop put on by Todd Duncan and his dedicated crew and i'm stoked! Seriously, an eye opener into a genre of photography I hadn't even thought of. Muy Buenos!

Food HEAVEN!

Shooting food is TOUGH, but fun! We were very fortunate and had the opportunity to shoot at Tria Culinary Studio here in the Comox Valley. Wow! Not only was Kathy Jerritt an amazing hostess with patience for a dozen photogs, but she served up the BEST savory crepes i've ever had the pleasure of inhaling! I encourage all of you to take a tour of their website(www.triaculinarystudio.ca), but even better, get out there enjoy what they are offering. Coupled with the Blue Moon Estate Winery, they're unstoppable! Thanks Kathy!

The advertising world ... so exciting!

Likely my favourite class to date (ok, one of my favourites) was our Advertising Photog class with Nanaimo based photo slayer - Sean Fenzl. The think-tanking that goes on to create one of these images out of a single concept or idea is for me what makes this type of photography so appealing. Creating the set is just plain fun! A few results, tell me what you think ...

Purely Flower

A good friend and owner of Purely Flower asked if I could shoot some of her bouquets and arrangements she had created for a wedding show. I had a great time and love the images - Thanks Tamara! You can see more of her amazing work at www.PurelyFlower.com

Raven in a tree

Just before Christmas we had to submit a couple shots for our Architecture class. With a commercial building/operation as a subject, I chose to shoot Raven Lodge which is the Nordic Ski Lodge up on Mount Washington. Pretty easy to shoot a building like this! Oh, and i threw in a little HDR xmas tree for fun!
